The Necklace
“Dylan, I’m telling you I heard someone outside Command last night. What makes it odd is the fact I couldn’t get out to look. Plus Andromeda wouldn’t
respond.”
Dylan, the captain of the Andromeda, and I were walking along the corridors of deck 25. I was telling Dylan about my night shift last night. So far Dylan
didn’t believe me but as soon as I mentioned Andromeda, he stopped and looked at me.
“Andromeda didn’t respond.” Said Dylan “Didn’t respond to what?”
“I asked Andromeda to open the door and she didn’t. I asked her is anyone was outside the door, she didn’t answer?”
“What about the screens?”
“She wouldn’t change them to the security cameras.”
“How long did that last for?”
“About an hour. I contacted Rhade and asked him to look around Command deck for me.”
“Did he find anything?”
“Not on Command. Andromeda told Rhade that there was a strange activity on this deck, deck 25.”
“Andromeda talked to Rhade, but didn’t respond to you. Strange.”
Dylan left the conversation there. He carried on walking down the corridor. I followed him until we came to a stop. We stopped at the Machine Shop. What we saw was a mess. Though we don’t use this room very often, it surprised me how much stuff was in here. Boxes were emptied and thrown across the room in disappointment. Equipment that were once on the shelves were now on the floor, broken. Wires have been taken of the back of the control panels. The control panels are now ripped out and on the floor.
“Andromeda, what happened in here?” asked Dylan
The hologram of Andromeda appeared in the middle of the room. She had a quick look round and looked at her captain.
“My sensors were cut of. When they were turned back on, the person who was in here made a quick get away.”
“That would explain why she didn’t respond.” Dylan said to me “But what were they doing in here?”
“Think they were looking for something boss.” Said Harper
Harper had appeared from behind a pile of boxes. Rhade was close at his heels.
“What would they want from Machine shop on deck 25?” asked Rhade
“You tell me. But whatever they were looking for, they didn’t find it. Everything’s here.”
For a couple of minutes Dylan looked thoughtful. Then he said “Andromeda, run play back.”
Andromeda disappeared and in her place was three holograms. They were all wearing a black mask, so we couldn’t see who they were. Everything was going fast as Andromeda re-winded the scene. She stopped at the point where the door opened. The three men came in. One of them, must be the leader, directed the other two to look in different directions.
“This is fun.” Said Rhade “Would be better with sound.”
“Play sound.” Dylan ordered
As we watched the men search the room, we heard what they were looking for.
“That stupid necklace isn’t here.” Said the man on the right
“It has to be. It fell of her neck. Keep looking!” said the leader
At once I recognised their voices. They had been on this deck once before. My hand flew automatically to my neck. Dylan saw me and said “Stop play back.”
The holograms disappeared then Dylan continued “Why would they be looking for your necklace in the machine shop on deck 25?”
“Remember the last time they were here? In a haste of getting out my necklace must have fallen of. One of them obviously saw it fall of.”
“Your wearing it now” stated Harper
“Thanks for stating the obvious Harper.” Said Rhade
“Sapphire how did you get your necklace back?” asked Dylan
“Trance spotted it was gone. She offered to look for it. I mentioned machine
shop on deck 25 and in a few hours she found it.” I said
“That’s our Trance.” Said Harper
“We need to keep your necklace in a safe place.” Said Dylan
I looked at him. I’ve never allowed anyone to take my necklace. But Dylan Hunt was different. I took my necklace of and carefully placed it in Dylan’s
hand.
Myself, Rhade, Harper and Dylan were now in Dylan’s quarters. We watched Dylan has he placed my necklace into a small box. Then he put the small box into a bigger box. And the bigger box was then placed into a larger box. Dylan then placed the box into the draw of his desk. He closed the draw and locked it.
“I’ll give the key to Rommie.” Said Dylan “Don’t worry Sapphire, it’s only temporally. You’ll get your necklace back soon, I promise.”
“You don’t have to promise Dylan Hunt. I trust you with my life.” I said
It was true. I might have only known Dylan Hunt and his crew for a couple of months, but I do trust Dylan. Trust him with my life.
The end.
