Tell Me It's Love
I watched as my little brother was packing. He was in town only for a week and now he’s back on the road again. I say little brother even though he’s 19.
I’m older by 2 years but for a long time I was like a mother to him. Now he was on the road with the circus. And the circus was leaving town tonight.
“Thanks for letting me stay for the week sis.” He said “Was an enjoyable stay.”
“Glad you like it.” I said “Don’t be a stranger Roy. My door is always open.”
“Thanks. I never got the chance to say I’m sorry. I caused big time trouble between us when mum and dad died. I was confused, thinking that I…
loved…”
“Forget about it Roy, it happens. If it means anything, I was confused about my feelings as well. Just that awkward thing.”
“Those night, did you enjoy them?”
I folded my arms and was a feeling a little uncomfortable. Some night I did enjoy and others I wished never happened. I looked away and Roy took the hint. It was a difficult period for us. Brother and sister in love, well at least thought we were.
“I’m sorry. I think mum and dad hated us for what we did.” Said Roy
“Sure they did but that’s in the past. At least I hope it is.” I said
“It is, thankfully. I’m dating.”
“That’s great Roy. I’m in a serious relationship.”
“With who?”
“Shane Filan.”
“Really? You’re in a relationship with Shane Filan?”
“Yeah.”
“Wow. I heard he was seeing someone but didn’t know it was you.”
“We wanted that part quiet.”
Roy smiled and came over to me. We hugged and I held him as tightly as I could get away with. He was my little brother and the mishap only brought us
closer. OK, our parents would be disappointed but the bond between us was the end result. We went through it together and shared the same confusing thoughts. The love making was weird but also enjoyable. I didn’t hate that phase, I liked it because it brought us closer. As brother and sister, not lovers.
“Miss me?” Roy said cheekily
I laughed and punched him playfully on the arm. Of course I will miss him, he was my world.
“Well, everything’s packed. I’d better get going.” said Roy
“Of course.” I said
I took his bag and we left the house. The taxi was waiting and when I closed the door, the driver drove down the road.
I was standing on top of the hill with my wrapped around myself. I could see the lights of the vehicles of the circus leave the area. Tears were building in
my eyes but I refused to let them fall. The wind picked up as the last vehicle left and the lights went into the distance. Roy was gone.
Suddenly another pair of arms were around me. I felt the wetness of his lips on the back of neck and I smiled. His lips went up to my ear and he started
nibbling. Then he whispered “He’ll be fine Sally. One of the most safer jobs he could do.”
I felt him tighten his embrace and pushed my body to his. It’s going to be 6 months before I got to see Roy again. My heart aches every time we say goodbye.
“Come on, let’s get you out of the night air.” Said Shane
I let him guide me down the hill. Then he took me home.
Three weeks have passed since I said goodbye to Roy. I’ve gone to every Westlife concert in those weeks, just to help me get through. With all the fans
gone and an empty arena, Shane jumped down from the stage and made his way towards me. He held out his hands and I did the same. He took mine into his and we stared at each other.
“You’re missing him.” Stated Shane
“Can’t a girlfriend support her lover?” I asked
“Of course, and I love that. But every show since Roy left?” Shane raised his eyebrow and continued “Talk about needing a distraction.”
“Westlife isn’t really a distraction. You, on the other hand, are.”
“Only a distraction? I hope I’m more than that.”
“Much more.”
“How much more?”
“Much, much, much, much more.”
“That’s better.”
Shane pressed his lips on mine then pulled me to his body. His tongue slipped through my lips, just managing to touch my tongue. His
hands released mine and found their way down my trousers. I pulled away from the kiss and took his hands out.
“Your hands are cold.” I said “And besides, not here.”
“That’s alright baby, I know I place where we can go. And only one thing can warm my hands.”
He kissed me quickly and led me out of the arena. I had an idea where we were going…
We were naked by now and Shane was on top of me. He pressed his lips on mine and his tongue demanded entrance. His hands went to my breasts and started to move in circular movements. I moaned a little as his legs started to widen the gap between mine. I gasp a little as his hand squeezed my breast and his tongue slip through, widening my lips so he could explore more.
Before anything else happened, I pushed Shane to one side. Our breathing was heavy and I leaned my head on his shoulder. He placed his arm behind me and started to stroke my hair. My hand went to his chest and I started rubbing it up and down.
“Shane, tell me something.” I said
“Anything.” Shane said
“Tell me what we’re doing isn’t playing. Tell me it’s love.”
“Why are you doubting?”
“Shane please?”
“Is it because I haven’t said those words yet? Give me time Sally and I will.”
“Nothing to do with that. Just what happened between me and Roy…”
“Here we go again!”
“You don’t know what we went through. Shane it was confusing. We were probably playing. Please just tell me we’re not playing? Tell me this is love.
That’s all I need to know.”
Shane cupped my face with his hands and stared into my eyes. Our lips were just inches away and I would refuse him to kiss me if he tried.
“When we first started dating, we had our own minds. You were using me as a way to forget about Roy. I was just playing you, thinking I could get away with I wanted. Never once did I think about you, your needs. That’s changed, big time. Sally what we do, what we’ve done is love. I wouldn’t do it other wise.”
“Serious? That we’re enough? You always going to feel this way?”
“Yes. We are enough, we don’t need anyone else. I will always feel this way Sally. Give me time and I will say those words.”
“They don’t matter. This matters.”
I pressed my lips on his and of we go again.
The next morning I joined the lads at the studio. I was listening to Shane’s voice while he sang:
“When it’s easier to walk away
Are you strong enough to turn the page?
Do you know how to begin again?
Would you let me in?
I’d get through anything I had to if I’ve got you…”
It sounded as if Shane was singing about us. The whole song about us. I didn’t care because I was lost in Shane’s voice. When he was finished, he came
out of the recording booth and kissed me.
“What do you think of the song so far?” Asked Shane
“One of your best. Although I have the feeling about a certain inspiration for the song.” I said
“What gives you that idea?”
“And the circus has left town” and “Tell me it’s love”” I quoted
“OK but it wasn’t me who wrote it. I didn’t have the idea.”
“Doesn’t matter Shane. It’s a lovely song and deserves to be on the album.”
“It should be, fingers crossed.”
He kissed me again and said “For luck.”
“For what?” I asked
“For the song stupid!”
“Start talking like that and you’re sleeping on your own tonight.”
“Yeah right. You want me for yourself. I know you Sally. Once we start it’s hard to stop. You asked me to tell this is love. Now there’s something I need
you to say. Say I’m the one because I want you. There’s nothing else that I want but to have you to myself. Say I’m the one?”
I looked at him. I couldn’t believe we were having this conversation in the recording studio. But the love he had for me was shining through his eyes.
“You are the one. Just because I sometimes doubt about me and Roy doesn’t mean anything.” I said “I love you Shane. You are the one and always will be.”
Shane brought me to his body and held me in his arms. His hand started to stroke my air.
“I love you Sally.” Shane said
I smiled and buried my head in his chest. Then I said “I love you to.” We stayed like this until we were interrupted. But it was a moment that I
will never forget.
The end.
