Hourglass School
Chapter 6
A smile suddenly appeared on the girl who had red-golden hair. She stood up and walked over to me. A laugh escaped her and the other three joined in. I
continued to stand, now looking at them confused.
“Seriously Liz, welcome to our world.” She said “I’m Sonara. You’ve already met Kat and briefly saw Lisa. The girl by her desk is Isolde.”
“Sorry for the that episode of tension.” said Kat “We kind of agreed to do that before I met you this morning.”
I just nodded. I didn’t know what to say or do. Sonara’s smile grew wider as she came closer and took my hand in hers. She gave a small squeeze and I relaxed a little. I let her guide me to my bed and we sat down on the edge.
“Just because we’re known as outsiders doesn’t mean we bite.” Said Isolde
“I can’t understand that.” I said “What makes us different to everyone else?”
“Because we’re not true holders of magic.” Said Kat
“Meaning?”
“Meaning, non of our family has magic. We come from mortal families basically.”
“Just like the Harry Potter books.” Said Lisa “Muggle born.”
“For you four. To this day people are trying to work out how a werewolf gained magic powers.”
“It shouldn’t really matter Kat.” Said Isolde “Vampires ruled this school once and none of them processed magic like ours.”
“Then how did they gain control of the school?” I asked
Isolde shrugged “No one knows. It’s all guesses at the end of the day. Though, back then, werewolves weren’t even allowed on the ground mind in the
building.”
“But there are stories about a female vampire and a male werewolf.” Said Lisa “Don’t you think it can be true? After all, the evidence is still standing.”
Silence filled the room, each girl lost in their own thoughts.
“It’s possible Lisa.” Said Sonara after a while “There’s no denying the ruined church. But can it be possible for a vampire to love a werewolf? It’s stories, guesses. It’s up to you to believe it or not.”
That night, I dreamt just that. The female vampire, the male werewolf, the church, the school. The vampires giving birth, the flames of torches. Smoke in
the church, the sound of a baby crying. Then I saw the baby growing up in glimpses, until I saw her as a teenage. And to my astonishment, the teenage girl looked like Kat.
The next day, before I met up with Shane, I pulled Lisa into an empty room.
“What happened with the first years yesterday?” I asked her as calmly and friendly as I could.
Lisa shrugged “I don’t know.” She said quietly.
“You went…”
“Shane stopped me when we went round the corner. He got the information that he needed and told me to point him in the right direction. So I
did. Then said it be best if I went the back way to class.”
“How did he get the information he needed?” I asked, a little worried.
“Don’t know. But it felt he was searching my brain. I’ve heard of mind readers, Isolde is one, but I’ve never experienced it.”
“So Shane read your mind?”
“Could have. But it felt like more than reading my mind. It felt…”
Lisa trailed of. She looked down at her feet and twirled a strand of hair around her fingers.
“What Lisa?” I prompted.
She slowly lifted her head and our eyes met. Her eyes were scared and for a second, I thought I saw s flame appear behind the pupils.
“He invaded my mind.” She said in a harsh whisper.
